Easiest and yummiest spiced apple tart, or is it a pie…. isn’t that always the debate? Hehe Either way YUUUUMMMM!
Ingredients
For the Base
- 200gm butternut or Biscoff biscuits
- 70gm salted butter
The Fillings
- 3 large red delicious apples finely diced
- 30gm unsalted butter
- 30gm sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp allspice - fine grind in FinaPod MAX
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg - grind in FinaPod GT
- 4 large Granny Smith apples de-cored and finely sliced
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon - grind in FinaPod GT
- 1 tsp ground allspice - fine grind in FinaPod MAX
- 40 gm chopped unsalted butter
For the glaze you can either use honey or apricot jam and brush straight out of oven when cooked.
Instructions
- Preheat oven 160c. Blitz the biscuits to fine crumb and add in melted butter and flatten in tart tin. Bake for 10 minutes and let cool.
- On a stove in a medium sized pot place the diced red delicious apples, sugar, cinnamon stick, lemon juice, spices and butter and 2 tbsp of water and cook down on medium heat until the apples have softened and start to caramelise. Remove cinnamon stick and then mash them to a fine pulp and let cool.
- Finely slice the granny smith apples and place in bowl with the lemon juice. Add in the spices and brown sugar and mix thoroughly.
- With the prepared tart shell spread the apple puree over the bottom, then top off with the sliced apples in any formation you like. Add extra spice over the top of your choice and add the knobs of butter. With the oven still on 160c bake the tart for 40 minutes. As soon as it comes out the oven, glaze with the jam or honey, then ENJOY!
